8 May 2021 marked my last Big Day in the Czech Republic and I planned to go out with a bang. I spent close to 20 hours birding, both alone and with friends, and saw some fantastic birds! I ended up with a fairly decent score and rank that I am proud of. But most importantly, I had loads of fun and enjoyed the birds!

I asked Honza Grünwald if he’d be interested in birding together again. He turned out to be keen, and wanted to help me get my Czech life list to 200 (it was at 170). We ended up deciding to do a two-day trip on 12–13 February, with Honza coming up with an insanely detailed plan of the locations we’d go to, with times, and the new species I’d possibly see. That week had been very cold and dark with some snowfall as well, and temperatures were regularly dropping below the negative tens. The days also coincided with the start of the Great Backyard Bird Count, which was a nice bonus.
